Tree Surgery
Our fully trained and certificated staff under take all aspects of tree care throughout the Midlands and North Wales. All work is undertaken to B.S. 3998. Operations offered include tree felling, crown reduction/thinning, pruning, bracing, and tree planting. We also undertake hedge trimming and reductions.
Felling & Dismantling
Sometimes it is necessary to fell and remove a tree as it has become unsafe wether by fungal infection, storm damage, etc, or planning issues stipulate its removal. In such instances ArB Tree Care have a vast amount of experience. All our climbing staff are qualified to undertake rigging operations and along with our specialist equipment no tree is therefore too large for us to undertake. Over the years we have become specialists in large tree dismantling and removal.
Pruning
Trees have natural biological defense systems which help defend against disease and decay by isolating affected areas; this is known as “compartmentalization”.
Incorrect tree surgery can compromise the trees ability to defend itself against decay.
ArB Tree care staff are trained to perform natural target pruning to ensure that cells under the bark (which are essential for healing) are left intact to aid the trees recovery from any pruning operations undertaken.
Pruning a tree may occur in a variety of forms:
-
Deadwooding/Crown cleaning: This is the removal of deadwood, damaged, diseased or rubbing branches in the crown of a tree. This is useful for trees in urban settings particularly, as it reduces the risk of falling debris.
-
Crown Thinning: This is the removal of branches evenly throughout the crown. Normally no more than 30% of material should be removed (including deadwood). This operation allows light to penetrate the canopy, reduces weight on weaker branches and reduces wind resistance whilst maintaining overall height and profile of the tree.
-
Crown Raising/Crown Lifting: This is the removal of the lowest or low overhanging branches. It is often undertaken to allow vehicle or pedestrian access close to a tree, but it may also be used to stop children climbing a tree close to a potential hazard such as powerlines.
-
Crown Reducing: This is the reduction in length of branches throughout the crown. It is often used to reduce the weight of weak branches and to stop branches interfering with adjacent buildings or structures. It will also reduce wind stress and may enable large mature trees to be retained in a confined area. Crown reductions are a difficult procedure and they can often spoil a tree if it is not carried out by an experienced professional. All our staff are fully trained to undertake this operation. They will make sure that all reductions are undertaken in such a way that a flowing branch line is preserved. Where branches are reduced to a union or fork then the remaining stem must be at least a third in diameter of the branch removed. A tree should never have a reduction of more than 30% in one operation (unless re-pollarding is being undertaken.).

Pollarding and Coppicing
These techniques are used to produce timber and are the earliest known forms of woodland management. Pollarding is where all the branches arising from the trunk are removed. This avoided any re-growth being grazed by cattle or deer etc. Coppicing is the felling of a tree so that only a small stump is left close to the ground. Mature naturally shaped trees may not respond well to either of these practices. However, this type of management must continue once started.
Stump grinding
Sometimes it is necessary to remove a tree stump after it has been felled. ArB Tree Care can provide an efficient stump removal service by using its R28T Predator grinding machine. This versatile machine has veriable width tracks so it can fit through most side gates or track itself up grass and mud hills to undertake grinding operations where most other machines would struggle to get. When we undertake the grinding operations we will remove all the debris and reinstate the ground to the customers requests. NOT all company’s offering grinding services do this, so always ask this question when obtaining quotes. |
